WNY LOSES TWO ROLE MODELS – WHO WILL STEP UP?

On opposite pages of the March 8, 2019 edition of The Buffalo News are compelling obituaries of two significant contributors to the Western New York scientific and startup community – Dr. Robert Baier and Dr. Robert Genco.  The parallels between the two Bobs are striking.  Both were born in Western New York on Halloween, one year apart.  Both were educated in local public schools, local institutions of higher learning and in universities outside of the area. They returned to our region to build careers as internationally recognized leaders in scientific research and education.  The last many of these years were at the University at Buffalo.  Both developed cutting edge medical technologies and products to benefit humanity and made these products available through the formation of startup companies, even before founding startups became common.  Both were quick to share their time and expertise with others.  Most importantly, both were gentlemen – down to earth, always cordial, and quick to send congratulations or to provide a comment of support.

Insyte Consulting has had the honor and pleasure to collaborate with both men over the years.  Bob Genco also served on Insyte’s Board of Directors and was a member of the Buffalo Angels investor group.

Bob Genco and Bob Baier will be greatly missed.  Although the void that they leave does not necessarily need to be filled by people affiliated with the University at Buffalo, using a slogan formerly used by UB Athletics, who will be the #NextBullIn?
