The Empire State Manufacturing Survey (ESMS) for April paints a picture of slowing growth in manufacturing across the state, consistent with recent local and national manufacturing data. The ESMS index indicates continued expansion at 5.2 (a reading above 0 indicates growth) for April, but fell over 11 points since March. New Orders were also down over 14 points, indicating continued growth but at a slower pace. The Forward Looking index was up 2.5 points to 39.9 indicating optimism about NYS’ manufacturing conditions six months from now. See the full report here.
