National Manufacturing Contraction Extends into Third Year

“U.S. manufacturing activity contracted again in December, but at a slower rate compared to November. Demand showed signs of improving, while output stabilized” according to the latest PMI report from the Institute for Supply Management.  The level actually increased to 49.3 from 48.4 in November (a reading below 50.0 is consistent with contraction).  December marks the 25th time in the last 26 months that manufacturing activity contracted in the U.S.  See the full report here.
