MILK-BONE HONORED FOR SUSTAINABILITY EXCELLENCE

The Buffalo Milk-Bone manufacturing plant’s “zero-waste-to-landfill” achievement earned it the first-ever Sustainability Excellence and Employee Education Award from its parent company, Del Monte Foods.  The Buffalo operation, which makes all Milk-Bone Original Dog Treats, sent 549 tons of waste to landfills as recently as 2007.  Redesigning manufacturing processes to reduce waste through smarter packaging, handling, recycling and other means often results in significant financial benefit.  Sustainability can also help the top line by securing new or existing business with customers who are becoming increasingly sensitive to environmental issues, partly in response to consumer demands. Read the Buffalo News article here:  http://www.buffalonews.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20130805/BUSINESS/130809601/1005
