The Institute of Supply Management – Buffalo’s April Manufacturing Index increased to 62.5 signaling expansion last month, compared to the national ISM Index which decreased 2.4 points to 54.8 in April (a reading >50 indicates growth). Meanwhile, the Empire State Manufacturing Survey for May, released on Monday May 15, showed a drop of 6.2 points to -1.0 indicating that statewide manufacturing activity is flat. This is the Empire State Manufacturing Survey’s first negative reading since last October (a reading <0 indicates contraction).
