LOCAL, NATIONAL MANUFACTURING IN SYNC

The Institute of Supply Management – Buffalo’s PMI Index for March released today shows local manufacturing activity returned to modest growth after spiking earlier this year.  The March Index of 56.3 was down from a two-year high of 69.9 in January, but in line with the National ISM reading of 57.2 for March (a reading above 50 indicates expansion).  New Orders (69.0), Production (63.5) and Employment (62.0) all showed growth in Buffalo and nationally where 17 of 18 manufacturing sectors reported growth.  According to Professor Jay Walker of Niagara University who calculates the local PMI, “It was another good month, essentially every index had favorable results.”
