Medical device manufacturer Harmac has a well-earned reputation for investing in its people and their communities in Buffalo, Ireland and Mexico, winning Business First’s 2015 Manufacturing Award for Community Involvement. Now, Harmac has landed on the front page of last Sunday’s Buffalo News as it takes its longstanding community involvement to a new, World-Class level by spearheading the Bailey Green revitalization plan for Harmac’s east side neighborhood. This unique, multi-partner plan is so impressive and so far-reaching that it has been named a finalist in the 53rd Annual International Making Cities More Livable (IMCL) Design Competition being held in Rome, Italy in June. Past IMCL Awardees include Freiburg Germany, Portland Oregon and His Royal Highness the Prince of Wales, putting John Somers, Harmac and Bailey Green in some pretty impressive company! John Somers and Harmac are certainly taking community involvement to a new level. But they are also just one more example of the positive contributions that manufacturers make throughout WNY every day—jobs, tax revenue, charitable donations, volunteer support and investments of all kinds. Manufacturing matters in WNY and we couldn’t be more proud of the work we do to help companies like Harmac succeed. Congratulations to John and his Harmac team and good luck in Rome!
