The U.S. Department of Commerce Manufacturing Extension Partnership’s (MEP) Supplier Scouting service posts requests from companies and government agencies seeking U.S. manufacturers for a wide variety of products or contract manufacturing services.  Many of the requests require that the product complies with Build America, Buy America Act (“BABAA”) requirements  https://www.commerce.gov/oam/build-america-buy-america . Recent requests include:

  • White PVC panels 8” by 4”
  • Various BABAA-compliant lavatory and sink components
  • Parallel wound kraft paper tube
  • Steel ball Y-Clevis
  • PVC film based adhesive tape with 1” and 1.5” widths
  • Galfan Coated (95% Zn/ 5%Al) fully locked carbon steel cables
  • BABAA-compliant robe hooks (single and double)
  • BABAA-compliant bariatric folding shower seat
  • 4 Liter steel can with government required markings added
  • Contract manufacturing of probe medical device assembly (Soldering and micro soldering. Pouch sealing and sterile barrier systems. ISO Class 7 Clean Room. Appropriate certifications for building human-use medical devices. Long-distance routing of very small gauge insulated electrical wiring through small lumens. Medical-grade adhesive bonding. Laser Welding.)
  • BABAA-compliant resilient sheet flooring
  • BABAA-compliant wiring devices (wall cover plates, floor boxes, emergency pushbuttons, switches and receptacles)
  • Wearable camera prototype that uses 2-way communication and AI technology
  • BABAA-compliant interior LED lighting (track cylinder pendant and track lighting) and LED exit signs
  • BABAA-compliant nurse call system (domestic components must exceed 55% of the total component cost and be assembled in the US)
  • Cast iron 12” OD lid and ribbed rim
  • Fingerprinting station table from laminated wood, composite and other cleanable options

For each request, the MEP website posts a Supplier Scouting Opportunity Synopsis that details technical specifications and performance requirements, delivery requirements and cost and volume estimates.

New requests are received on a regular basis and generally have a required response date of 1-3 weeks.
